I missed last week due to the fact that I was enjoying myself on vacation. I regret nothing and you can’t make me! Here is a picture from my vacation. It’s me and my new friend Mr. Goat. He lives in Columbus, Ohio- at the zoo. He demanded I take a photo of us. Who am I to deny such a request?
You’re going to see something weird from me this week. This is my second FF story in a row without a dark twist. I must be coming down with something. I better get myself to a witch doctor soon. This story came to mind immediately and I had to run with it because Karl is basically me in story form. I tend to see things not for what they are, but for what I wish they would be.
As always, thanks to Rochelle for hosting and the lot of you for reading.

Open Your Mind
(word count: 100)
“Tell me you’re seeing this.” Karl pointed toward the shore. “I mean, just look at them. Look how beautiful they are.”
“The cranes? I wouldn’t exactly call them beautiful.” Janet didn’t have Karl’s gift. She couldn’t see the wonder in the everyday of life. She was a sad product of reality.
Karl, on the other hand, was a product of an overactive imagination. “Cranes? What are you talking about?” He looked down at his daughter. “Look at the giraffes, Cass. Aren’t they pretty?”
“I see them, daddy.” Cassidy’s smile melted his heart. “They’re perfect.”
Janet shook her head in frustration.

Never regret a vacay! 🙂
If I take a other sip of my rum & squint - I think I see the giraffes too 😆

Drink up! Seeing the world through Karl’s eyes tends to make the world look like a better place than it actually is.

good one!
September 12th, 2013 at 12:30 AM
p.s. I knew you were Karl…
September 13th, 2013 at 8:44 AM
I was bound to surface in a story eventually. I just never knew I’d name myself Karl.

I wish we could all be like Karl and see giraffes. Such a dreamer he is. I enjoyed this!
September 13th, 2013 at 8:45 AM
The world would be a much better place if we could all see it through Karl’s eyes.

Dear Karl…I mean Adam,
Careful. You might get a reputation for sweetness. I enjoyed your story, nonetheless. Glad you had a good vacation.
shalom,
Rochelle

I know! I better add a little extra darkness next week to make up for the sweetness overload lately.

The eyes of the imagination are (generally) wonderful. Glad you had a good vacation and happy anniversary a bit late. As for sweetness and light, they’re good, too, balancing the dark side nicely. 🙂

The eyes of imagination are indeed wonderful. I’m glad I still have them and I hope my daughter can keep hers as she grows older.
September 12th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
Ah, everyone needs an imagination like that! 🙂
September 13th, 2013 at 8:51 AM
Sadly, I think there are more Janets than Karls in the world. It’s a shame really. Something about growing up seems to ruin the imaginations of most people. We need to work on a cure for that.

Let’s hope that as Cassidy get older she manages to hold on to her imagination! Lovely story.

That’s the goal of Karl (and myself). A parent should never allow a child’s imagination to die, not without a fight anyway.

haha. nice one, Karl! ^^ it’d be great to see the world through Cassidy’s eyes. enjoyed this

I wanted to write a darker story this week, but the giraffes wouldn’t let me. Thems the breaks of having an overactive imagination I guess. You don’t always get what you want. Just have to go with the flow sometimes.

I think Cassidy is lucky to have these particular parents: one with imagination constantly churning, the other very grounded in reality. She has the best of both worlds 🙂

Indeed she is a lucky girl.

Are you sure that wasn’t a Fictioneer you had your picture made with? There are several of us old goats in the group. I loved your story, Karl/Adam. I tend to look at things from that perspective too. It’s much more fun. Poor Janet really missed the boat (pun intended).
September 16th, 2013 at 7:38 AM
You’re aren’t wrong. There are several old goats around, but this particular one didn’t seem to be glued to a computer screen reading stories so it’s a safe bet it was not a Fictioneer. And you’re right, it’s a lot more fun to view the world as it isn’t. Less depressing too.

I always wanted a goat. Apparently my folks had been around them and denied my request. A sad product of reality-good line.
September 16th, 2013 at 7:39 AM
My wife had a goat when she was a kid. Once was enough for her.

Dear Adam,
Everybody sees giraffes. I like your take on the story. Send me some of what you’re taking.
Aloha,
Doug

I noticed the giraffes in a lot more stories than I expected. The only thing I’m taking is regular breaks from reality. I don’t like to spend any more time there than I have to.

Awww, I love this story.

Thanks!
